DataNet Communications presents the FileMaker Pro Essentials hands-on training series, thoroughly revised and extended, to reflect the many new features of FileMaker Pro 9. Everyone who is interested in FileMaker Pro training - - you're invited!
We are presenting the FileMaker Pro Essentials hands-on database training series in Calgary: June 3, June 4, and June 5, and in Edmonton: June 10, June 11, and June 18. Future planned workshops include Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, and Vancouver. Full details about future sessions will be posted on this web site once finalized.
The FileMaker Pro Essentials workshop series will help you to Think FileMaker! You will develop understanding and mastery of techniques that will greatly improve your organization's working databases - - calculations, relationships, scripts, security, and much more. All of the concepts presented apply to FileMaker Pro 9 and the greater majority to v7 and v8. Participants can expect to gain introductory to intermediate knowledge of FileMaker Pro, to enable the creation, administration, and editing of databases for a variety of purposes in their organization.
We will use the current version, FileMaker Pro v9. Concepts presented in FileMaker Pro Essentials workshops can be applied to either v7 or v8, Windows or Mac OS, and are also of interest to users of older versions of FileMaker Pro who are looking to upgrade.
The FileMaker Pro Essentials workshop series is designed so that material presented in each session follows on from concepts presented in the previous session. Day 1 is a thorough introduction aimed at understanding and using databases, while Days 2 and 3 are intermediate level sessions which incorporate concepts aimed at developing and editing databases for your organization which are both flexible and extensible. Register for a single session, two of the three sessions, or the integrated three-day package. (The three day package is not recommended for new users of FileMaker Pro.)
Participants should be experienced personal computer users, using either Windows or Mac OS. Experience with FileMaker Pro is not required, as Day 1 provides a thorough grounding in the basics of FileMaker Pro. Day 2 and Day 3 follow on with intermediate level concepts and activities. All of the sessions are intensive, with plenty of hands-on activity covering a variety of topics.
Be prepared to work and learn and Think FileMaker!

The Goal of FileMaker Pro Essentials training:
The primary goal of the FileMaker Pro Essentials training, provided by DataNet Communications, is to promote the development of trainee Confidence in his/her approach to FileMaker Pro. This goal is based on the premise that confidence in ones' own abilities, coupled with the capabilities of FileMaker Pro, together encourage creativity, vision, and effective implementation. Such confidence comes best from hands-on experience, and manifests itself in the willingness to both, apply new-found knowledge to new situations and to further develop database skills.
Result - - The trainee becomes a confident and creative user

FileMaker Pro Essentials Itinerary:
Essentials 1: The Complete Basics for Non-Beginners (Introductory)
Essentials 2: Relational Database Design and Scripting Skills (Intermediate)
Essentials 3: Calculations, Scripting, Security, Web Publishing (Intermediate)
Together the three days provide an integrated workshop in FileMaker Pro Database Training.
Filemaker Pro Essentials 1 (Introductory): The Complete Basics for Non-Beginners
The first day is a thorough look at the basic workings of FileMaker Pro. Hands-on activities include: using existing FileMaker Pro databases, importing data, building and using custom databases, field formatting, functions and calculations, data manipulation, and exporting data. These activities combine to provide participants with a firm grounding in the FileMaker Pro environment, along with the confidence to try almost anything. Current users will accrue much benefit by “filling in the gaps” in their knowledge of FileMaker Pro.
Target audience - - experienced computer users, Windows or Mac OS, with some or no experience with FileMaker Pro, who would like to deploy FileMaker Pro databases in their organization. No previous FileMaker Pro experience is necessary.
Filemaker Pro Essentials 2 (Intermediate): Relational Database Design and Scripting Skills
Day 2 looks at specialized reporting, relational database system design, data tables, the relationship graph, table occurrences and relationships, multiple tables, and an introduction to automating tasks through scripting. Day 2 provides the Essentials for designing and building effective and usable relational database systems.
Target audience - - users with previous experience with FileMaker Pro, who are interested in generating reports, relational database design, and scripting. Essentials 1 attendance and/or previous FileMaker Pro experience are recommended.Filemaker Pro Essentials 3 (Intermediate): Calculations, Scripting, Security, Web Publishing
The third day builds upon the concepts covered in Day 2, by examining more complex calculations, and more complex scripting, along with implementing database security measures and Instant Web Publishing. Skills and concepts involved in designing and deploying effective relational database systems are revisited, with the goal of knitting it all together. Day 3 provides further exposure to some of the more advanced features of FileMaker Pro.
Target audience - - intermediate level FileMaker Pro users who would like to enhance their development skills. Essentials 2 attendance and previous FileMaker Pro experience are strongly recommended.
